What do you know about blogging platforms? When we first started blogging, we had no clue. All we knew was there was this thing called Blogger and you could set up a blogging account for FREE. As time went on we shifted from blogging, to designing blogs and websites and eventually switched from Blogger to WordPress.
So, what is a blogging platform, anyway? According to The Balance, a blogging platform is the software or service that you use to publish your content onto the internet in the form of a blog. A blog platform is a specific form of a content management system.
In our research and study of Blog Web Design Trends (find our theme trends here), we have found that most female blogs and websites use the following blogging platforms to publish their content:
WordPress
“28% of the web uses WordPress, from hobby blogs to the biggest news sites online.”
Blogger
“Create a unique and beautiful blog. It’s easy and free.”
Square Space
“Our award-winning templates are the most beautiful way to present your ideas online. Stand out with a professional website, portfolio, or online store.”
Wix
Can you guess which platform we find the most in our research? If you have seen our reports you would definitely know it is…WordPress! In our most recent report it was used 21 out of 25 times. WordPress has a vast array of options when it comes to themes whether it be a free or premium theme. It is also host to some of the most popular frameworks Genesis Framework, Divi by Elegant Themes and Themify to name a few. We recommend the most popular framework which we happen to use Genesis Framework!
So, when looking for a platform, here are some things to consider:
- Costs – Is it free or is it paid?
- Hosting – Self-hosted or hosted?
- What are the limitations?
- Is it easy to use?
Which platform did you start with? Are you still using the same platform? What things did you look for when choosing a platform?
